Another lunch with Grandpa

Last night I called my grandpa to see how he was doing and he said that he was going to lunch today to eat ravioli (there is an Italian restaurant here he loves to go to and he always gets the ravioli). So I told him it would be better for him to go with someone, so he invited me.

Last time we went to Mario's (the name of the restaurant), we went for lunch about noon and it was your typical lunch-time crowd- mostly people who work and only have an hour. Well, we were seated next to a table of co-workers numbering about 7-8. They were enjoying themselves and their lunch, but apparently they were just too loud for grandpa. Every time they laughed or a couple of them were talking at once, he got so mad and swore that we would never go to Mario's again at noon-time.

So this morning my phone rings about 8am and it is grandpa telling me to meet him at Mario's at 10:30!!!! Yes, 10:30! I told him that no body will be there at 10:30 because they don't even open till 11am. Of course, this was no good. He finally agreed to 11, as long as I was there at 11 because he doesn't want to "have to sit in all that noise again."

I'll let you know how it goes- after I eat my second lunch at about 2:30 or 3. :)

How to make a middle schooler miserable for 30 minutes

So, as you might have guessed, I just finished a lesson with a middle schooler and well.....I decided (a decision that was forced upon me) to make him miserable for his ENTIRE lesson time.

First a little background- this kid has been coming since school started in August and most of the time, he is a major spaz. He sits in the chair and rocks back and forth on the chair (lifting 2 legs off the ground at a time, then goes the other direction and lifts the other 2 legs). And sometimes he will be playing and all of a sudden he will just look and me and yell something. The kid is weird. One day I asked him if he took medication and he looked at me and said "no," and then I told him "maybe you should." My mom thinks that was mean, but oh well.

His dad is a retired army colonel so I can usually coax him into submission by threatening to tell his dad how he behaves in lessons. Well, today he came and told me that he hated his last teacher and then I asked him if that was his way of telling me that he liked taking lessons with me and he said "I never said I didn't hate you too." So by this point I was totally ticked at the kid and I told him that he better stop talking and start playing before I asked him not to come back for anymore lessons.

So, any of you music teachers out there (and anyone that has taken music lessons) can guess what we did for his whole half hour lesson. Major Scales. ALL OF THEM!!!! hahahahahah. Not only that, but I made him play each one twice. And I made him play the chromatic scale and every time he made a mistake, I made him start back at the beginning.

At the end he told me he was ready to leave and didn't want to play the last one, to which I said "you can either be quiet and play the last one, or we can both go out and talk to your dad." that did the trick. Then he told me that he actually likes coming to saxophone lessons because he has nothing else to do on Wednesday afternoons. And I told him if he doesn't like lessons, please do not come again.

I'm still thinking about calling the dad. hmmmmmmm

New pics of the little man

Today I went for an ultrasound. Yesterday at my regular doctor's appointment (not that there is ever anything regular about that place) my doctor listened to the heartbeat through the doppler and stood there listening for a really long time. Normally he just listens for a little while then tells me how fast it was and goes on to the next task. But yesterday he really kept listening- it seems the baby's heart was losing quite a few beats per minute. So, he sent me for an ultrasound today.

Everything is fine and all the cardio exams done on the baby through ultrasound are normal and the structure and function appear normal. So all is well and of course, the little heart didn't do anything weird today- it just kept perfectly in time.

But the good news for today was that I got to go to another location for the ultrasound (not the hospital ultrasound office I went to last time) and this place has 3D and 4D technology. So, I got some really good pictures! Enjoy.

First image is feet- obviously. Anyone else think this kid might have 6 toes on his left foot?

second image- face

third image- hand coup in front of face- the ultrasound tech thinks his arms are pretty long

fourth image- hand holding the umbilical cord up around his face. He was playing with the cord the whole time

fifth image- boy parts- looking up from the bottom. Please don't make me explain further- just look at it until you figure it out :)

Baby quilts

Here are pictures of the quilt I finally finished. I started this thing about 8-10 months ago (long before I even knew I was going to have a baby). And now it's DONE!

I have been making quilts for my friends who have had babies and I decided that this one would be mine. I started with those iron-on transfer things that you can embroider on. Since this one was going to be for us, I picked little boys and little girls and made the little boys with red hair and green eyes and the little girl with brown hair and green/brown eyes. Once I finished embroidering, I pieced them all together with fabric and then hand-quilted- thus the very, very long delay on putting this thing together. Next time- machine quilt.

Anyway, yesterday I finally got to put the ribbon on and finish the blanket!

I also made a little blue teddy bear blanket this weekend. It was much easier because there was not embroidering involved and as I said earlier- machine quilt.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. I really had a fun time making these blankets.
(as you might have guessed, I'm not so good at adding pics, so there is one at the top and the rest follow the text). :)

Belly button

My belly button is really hurting quite a bit today. I used to have this nice, lovely innie belly button that never mattered all that much to me. But now that I am starting to show (and grow), my belly button has really started to hurt and eve bruise a little.

So, in case you're interested, the current state of my belly button is mostly flat (still slightly innie) but starting to hurt more and more as it comes out. It's very soft, though- probably because that skin has never seen sun in it's life.

I emailed one of my professors from UT to tell him about the blessed event and he wrote back very quickly and was super-nice. It was a very, very nice email he sent back to me and it made me feel good the rest of the day.

I guess that's all my excitement for today- sadly.
